The Petroleum Process

Petrol has been the most important source of energy around the world for decades. It is used everyday in various ways. Making petrol involves refining oil which costs a lot of money. There are several stages in making petrol.

The process begins in the oil field. The oil field is located by geologic survey teams. After that, the oil is pumped via pipeline to the storage tank. It is refined into various products such as petrol, plastic and many other products. After that, it is stored in storage tanks. The petrol is stored in tanks and transported to petrol stations. Then, the petrol is stored in underground tanks, before it is pumped into cars tanks, and the cars are happily driven.

Producing petrol costs a lot of money. People should consume it wisely. The world might go back to the Stone Age if oil is finished. Scientists have started to look for alternative sources of energy.

Manufacturing paper - Passive form

Paper Manufacture

A sheet of paper is a flattened mesh of interlocking plant fibres, mainly of wood and cotton. Making paper involves reducing a plant to its fibres, and then aligning them and coating the fibres with materials such as glues, pigments and mineral fillers. There are several stages in papermaking.

The process begins in the forest, where trees are felled and then transported to paper mills as logs. The bark has first to be stripped off the logs without damaging the wood.

After the bark is removed, the wood is pulped. The logs are first sliced into chips and then treated with chemicals in a digester. These dissolve the lignin which binds the wood fibres together. Alternatively, machines may grind the logs in water to produce pulp. The pulp is then bleached.

The next stage, mixing, is what gives paper its appearance. The bleached pulp goes to the mixer, where materials are added to improve the quality of the paper The additives include white fillers such as china clay, size for water-proofing, and coloured pigments. The mixer beats the fibres into a smooth pulp.

Liquid pulp is fed onto a mesh belt. Water drains through the holes in the mesh; the drainage is accelerated by suction. The dandy roll presses the fibres together into a wet ribbon known as a web. Belts move the web between the press rolls, which remove more water and compress the paper.

The final stage is drying. The damp web moves through the dryer, where it passes between hot cylinders and felt-covered belts that absorb water. It is then wound on reels or cut into sheets, then packaged and sent to the warehouse for distribution.

Iphone versus Blackberry

Iphone Vs BlackBerry

Many countries produce many different mobile phones. Two main companies that produce the best phones in the world are Apple Iphone and Black Berry. This essay will compare and contrast these two phones.
There are many similarities between the Iphone and the Black Berry. One of the most important is both phones are smart phones which can do multiple tasks and surf the internet by Wi-Fi connection or 3G. Another important similarity is that the both phones have the same styling and height. In addition, they have the same resolution which is 480pi.
Although there are many similarities between Iphone and Black Berry, there are also some differences. One of the major and important differences is that the Black Berry doesn’t have a touch screen whereas the Iphone has a touch screen. Another important difference is that the Black Berry has better applications than the Iphone. In addition, the Black Berry is wider than the Iphone and the Black Berry has a scrolling pad.
In conclusion, both phones are the same and great phones but they have a few of differences. However, in my opinion, I prefer the Iphone because it’s better and more practical than the Black Berry.

The UAE now versus 40 years ago

The UAE is group of Emirates consisting of seven big cities. I’m going to write about the similarities and the differences in the life now and forty years ago.

There are some important similarities between living in forty years ago and in these days. Firstly the religion is still the same. For example, before forty years Emirates were Muslims’ and they still Muslims’ up to now and they still pray in the Mosque. Secondly in both times now and in past years the social life stills the same. For example, the people still sit together in big groups in Majlis. Another similarity between them is that they both still eat together in one group from one dish.

Although there are some similarities, there are some differences. One difference is the transportation. For example, in the past people used to use camels and wooden boats to move from place to another, but now people use cars, planes, and motorcycles. Also, people in the past used to eat fresh food but in these days’ people eat canned food and frozen food. In contrast people in the past lived in wooden houses or mud houses, but now they are living in big houses or villas and flats.

All in all we have to thank our God for the positive improvements. Also we have to keep our traditions. I think the UAE will be one of the best countries in the world when you consider the changes over the past forty years.

How To Prepare To Drive In To The Desert

If you want to go to a trip, you should prepare for it well or you will end up with a sad face. I’m going to tell you how to prepare to drive in to the desert in easy steps.
First, you should sleep well and you should pack your baggage at least two days before. Secondly, buy a camping tent because you are going to the desert and buy some sleeping bags. Then make sure to check your car engine, oil, tires and tools. Next, take some food with you and some equipment to help you with your journey. Fifth, choose the best time to go, I prefer dawn and returning at evening. Next, pack up your equipment and baggage in your car. Check everything is all right and nothing is missing. Then, prepare your GPS and locate the place that you want to reach to, as I say the perfect spot and enjoy your journey.
In conclusion, the preparation for the trip will take a while, but I’m sure you will enjoy it by following these easy steps.

Comparing two international Sports

Intro:

1. Sports have been played all over the world for hundreds of years.

2. There are many different kinds of sports.

3. Some of them are very popular and sports provide many benefits to anyone who plays them.

4. Some of them are played individually, whereas, others are played in teams against teams.

5. Now, I am going to write about the similarities and differences of two sports, football and basketball.

Similarities:

1. There are some important similarities

2. Firstly, they are both team sports.

3. A basketball team consists of five players, while a football team is made up of 11 players.

4. In both of these sports, players can be replaced by substitutes.

5. Another similarity between them is that they both use a ball, although they are not the same.

6. A football is light round and hard, and made of either leather or synthetic material.

7. It is usually black and white.

8. In contrast, a basketball is generally not as light as a football and it is made of hard rubber.

9. It is usually a reddish-brown color.

Differences:

1. Although there are similarities, there are also important differences.

2. One difference is the part of the body used to control the ball.

3. In football, the feet are used to dribble, kick and trap the ball.

4. Also, people sometimes use their heads to head the ball.

5. In contrast, basketball players can only use their hands to control the ball, which they dribble pass and shoot.

6. Another obvious difference is the places that these sports are played.

7. Football is generally played outdoors on grass pitches, whereas, basketball is usually played indoors on a wooden surface.

Conclusion:

1. All in all, most sports, especially team sports like basketball and football give players a chance to develop themselves.

2. They can also learn self-discipline and teamwork at the same team.

3. That is probably the reason why basketball and football are so popular around the world.

Procedure - Model essay

How to change a car tyre - Model answer

(Intro) One problem with driving a car is that sometimes a tyre bursts or has a puncture. In this essay I will show you the steps involved in changing a tyre.

(Body)
First, park the vehicle in a safe place and make sure the parking brake is on. Second, loosen the nuts (bolts) on the wheel that you need to replace. Then, take the jack out of the trunk and place it under the car. You must make sure it is in the correct position and safe to use. Next, raise the jack until the wheel is off the ground. Remove the wheel and replace it with a new one. After that tighten the nuts by hand and lower the jack until the wheel is back on the ground. Finally, tighten the nuts so they are secure.

(Conclusion)
Changing a tyre is easy. However, you must make sure you follow these steps in the right order to be safe.

My Story - Narrative

My Story - Introduction

My story is simple, yet it is also complicated when compared to many other people’s lives. Originally from the U.S. (I was born in Milwaukee Wisconsin – home of Harley Davidson Motorcycles), I have lived and worked in a number of different countries since I was 18 years old, and have travelled to many more in my life. Because I had studied the German language for six years in high school, and because my father worked for Siemens Corporation in the US, I had the chance to travel and work in Germany starting two months after my graduation from high school for 14 months until I returned and started the university. That was the beginning of my travels, which continued after I earned my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. I have a happy family of my parents and two sisters who I visit every year, but I live on my own these days.

My interests include travelling, swimming, cycling, cooking, and foreign languages, as well as reading and learning about other cultures.

I have spent the last 2 ½ years in the UAE which I consider my home now. I have been impressed on how modern, forward-thinking and progressive the country is.

I look forward to learning more about all my students in order to make this term a successful and enjoyable one.

My Introduction

This is my personal introduction. Welcome to English 125, I am happy to help you learn and improve your English skills in this course. We will have many chances for you to develop your skills.
I have lived in the UAE for 2 1/2 years now, but it seems like yesterday that I was arriving from a very cold and snowy place. As you can see from my blog photo I enjoy cycling and even rode my bicycle 1000km from Lhasa, Tibet to Kathmandu in Nepal over the Himalaya mountains. The mountain in the background of my blog photo is Mt. Everest, and the photo was taken at Everest Base Camp on the Tibet side of the mountain. There is a road which allows cars and trucks to drive to the base camp village. but not to the actual base camp which is used for teams preparing to climb Everest, or as the locals call it, Chomolungma - the Mother Goddess.
I traveled with 8 other riders and a support group of two trucks, two cooks and two drivers who set up camp and cooked for us everyday. The only thing I had to do was show up to eat breakfast and be ready to ride every morning. I missed the first two parts of the start of trek from Lhasa because the Chinese authorities gave me some trouble in obtaining my visa for the trip. But, I caught up to the group on the third day after traveling to Lhasa by myself and staying there for two days to acclimate to the altitude (3500m!).
Speaking about altitude, we mostly cycled between 4000 - 5200m, except the second last day when we started at over 4000m and after a high pass we rode downhill for almost 90km out of 120km!
It was a great adventure which I can recommend to anyone who's looking for an exciting holiday that's fun but tough! I would do it again, but not until after a few months.
